The Aadhaar card is an important identity document for Indian residents, which is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). But what if artificial intelligence can make it? Sounds incredible, isn't it? With the launch of the GPT-4o image generation facility by Openai last week, users have already created more than 700 million images-including artwork to realistic-looking documents. Now concerns are increasing about how such powerful AI tools can be misused, especially in sensitive areas such as identification construction.
In a worrying trend, some social media users have started posting their own photo fake Aadhaar cards made using the new image generation tool of Chatgpt. While concerns about the misuse of AI have been for some time, the launch of Chatgpt's ability to create extremely realistic images has brought those apprehensions closer to reality.
After seeing a wave of images like Aadhaar on social media, we decided to test it by using Chatgpt's image generator. Result? Surprisingly, it is similar to the real Aadhaar card – although the facial features were slightly different, everything else looked quite reliable.
Openai has admitted that this powerful new feature also increases the risk. In its GPT-4O system card, the company admitted that this tool can be misused more easily than earlier versions.
