Mumbai Cyber Crime: A shocking cyber fraud case has come to light from Mumbai, in which the thugs killed an assistant film director in the name of KYC update of Rs 3.39 lakh. This incident is from Oshiwara area, where a film director named the victim Chetan Desai has filed a police complaint in this regard. After the complaint, the Oshiwara police registered a case and started investigation.
This is how fraud
Chetan Desai received a message from an unknown number last week, claiming that his bank account has been closed. When he called the given number, the person picking up the phone described himself as a bank officer and said that his account has been closed due to incomplete KYC information. After this, the thug sent a link to Chetan and asked to fill the necessary information in it.
The victim opened the link without doubt and filled sensitive information like his bank account number, PAN card number and Aadhaar number. Shortly after, there were constant messages coming on his mobile, in which there was information about the withdrawal of large amount from his account. In this way, a total of Rs 3.39 lakh was blown from Chetan Desai's account.
Police filed a case
After the incident, Chetan immediately reached Oshiwara police station and informed about the whole incident. The police have registered a case under the sections of the IPC and the IT Act. Officials say that the bank account used by cyber thugs is being identified. Also, it is also being ascertained by which mediums and in which account it was transferred. However, the police have appealed to the people not to rely on the link or call from any unknown number and share any information to the bank only through official means.
