Tragic Turn in South Delhi Incident
A suspected suicide case in South Delhi has taken a disturbing twist, as the post-mortem findings indicate that the 28-year-old woman was actually murdered. The police have apprehended Amit Sehrawat, the main suspect in this case.
The situation unfolded on March 6 when a PCR call alerted authorities about a woman found hanging in her home located in Mahipalpur. The victim, identified as Kalpana, was transported to a hospital in Vasant Kunj, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Kalpana had been married to Amit for six years, and they shared a five-year-old child together.
Her parents reported to the police that the couple often had disputes, although they did not accuse Amit of any dowry-related violence. Initially, the police treated the incident as a suicide.
As a result, they initiated proceedings under Section 196 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
However, the investigation took a significant turn following the post-mortem conducted at Safdarjung Hospital on March 8. The autopsy revealed that Kalpana's death was due to 'asphyxia resulting from antemortem ligature strangulation,' indicating foul play. Samples of her viscera were collected for toxicology tests to eliminate the possibility of poisoning.
In light of these findings, a case was registered under Section 80 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), prompting a thorough investigation.
During questioning, Amit admitted that after attending a wedding in Masoodpur, Vasant Kunj, on March 5 and consuming alcohol, he returned home with the assistance of a cousin. An argument erupted between the couple, during which he strangled Kalpana in a fit of rage. To cover up the crime, he hung her body using a multicolored rope, attempting to stage it as a suicide. He was arrested on Friday, and the police are continuing their investigation to piece together the full timeline of events.
