You never know if you'll make a pet happy when you take in a rescue animal, but one dog's reaction to being adopted has left pet lovers absolutely sobbing. The rescue dog has clearly faced hardship in his life, being left with only one eye.

His story was shared via a dog shelter page on TikTok, and it's left people totally gobsmacked. It's easy for many people to fall in love with dogs, but it can be even more special when you feel you've made a real difference and worked to help totally transform a pet's life.

You can see the dog has a scar on his eye, and he looks quite shy and afraid at first, which perhaps isn't surprising as he was found without a collar or a microchip. The presenter said he was "basically invisible" when he was found as people assume he's "broken down", but the pooch looks unrecognisable after receiving care and love from complete strangers.

Before he was adopted, it was noted: "It will take a lot of time to fix him. I know I'm going to get comments that say 'this is cruel', you should adopt this dog now that you're spending time with him, but I've seen firsthand how moments like this can help a dog open up, and make it more likely that they'll get adopted.

"They start to see that humans can be good. It gives them something that they might have never had before, and that's hope. He has no name. I think we should call him Winky for now."

Winky eventually managed to find a new home. After various clips were shown of him looking lonely, afraid and sad, it seems he's undergone a total transformation.

A pet lover "fell in love with him", and knew she needed to help the dog get back on his feet. Initially, she planned to foster him, but she couldn't part with him as she loved him so much.

Together with her partner, the woman adopted him and later called him "Odin", and he looks much happier these days. Snaps were shared of him enjoying walks, looking a lot brighter and completely transforming into a new dog.

Even so, it hasn't been an easy journey, as the area where his eye has been removed became infected, which required treatment. He also had a poor immune system, which meant getting back to good health was tough.

At first, he was "scared" of his new owners, but this managed to ease after a few days. Over time, he's also developed more energy to go on walks.

He now runs with a wagging tail, and he looks a lot brighter. Odin is said to have a "sweet, loving disposition", and fitted right into the couple's home. All he wants is love, and his new parents are able to give him this in abundance.

They are working to train him to enable him to become more confident, and are giving him the time to learn new things. It's amazing how the kind actions of strangers can lead to changing an animal's life.

Since the video was shared, it's left many pet lovers sobbing. The story has clearly touched a lot of people's hearts.

One person said: "Great story. The right family adopted this precious dog." Another added: "Many blessings to that family and to the happy live of the Big O."

Under other videos, people simply reacted with crying and teary faces. This clearly displays how the story had them in tears after impacting them so much.
