Recently, when flights were being canceled across the country, even Amit Kumar could not escape from it. Leg spinner Amit Kumar, who was playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Jharkhand, was called for trials by Kavya Maran's franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad. But, the flight by which he was supposed to go got cancelled. The result was that he also missed his IPL trial. It was a heart-breaking thing for 23 year old Amit Kumar and that is exactly what happened. Amit Kumar was disappointed after SRH missed the trial regarding IPL 2026. Because, he felt that now his chance to sell in the IPL auction was gone.

Kavya Maran's SRH bought Amit

But, Amit Kumar did not know that Kavya Maran and SRH had already built trust on him. His talent has already been tested before the trials. The result of that trust was that in the players market organized in Abu Dhabi on 16 December 2025, Sunrisers Hyderabad bought him for his base price i.e. Rs 30 lakh.

Now the question is, what is Amit Kumar on whom Kavya Maran and her franchise have so much trust? He was seen playing for Jharkhand in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025, but how was his identity established? How did he become a cricketer? Amit Kumar's name is common in the corridors of Ranchi as a net bowler. Whenever there were international matches there, he was called. His amazing leg spin has impressed many great players of the world. Keshav Maharaj, Glenn Maxwell, Praveen Tambe are those players who have also praised him.

Gave flight to dreams by earning Rs 200 every day

Talking about Amit's cricketing journey, it starts from Hamirpur district of Bihar and reaches Ranchi. Inspired by India's 2011 World Cup victory, Amit Kumar dreamed of becoming a cricketer. Amit reached Ranchi with this dream of his and joined the local academy there. Now he took admission in the cricket academy but he also needed money to pay his fees. In such a situation, he became an assistant to the local groundsman and started helping in making pitches in the district level matches. Amit used to get Rs 200 every day for this work.
