New Delhi: The victim of the famous Unnao rape case of 2017 took a big step on Wednesday. She along with women’s rights activist Yogita Bhayana reached 10 Janpath in Delhi, where she met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. This meeting took place at Sonia Gandhi’s residence.

Speaking to the media as soon as she reached there, the victim said, “We just want to meet them and tell them what difficult times we are going through. I want justice. I also want to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and President Draupadi Murmu.”

Why did the victim come to meet Rahul Gandhi?

In fact, Delhi High Court on Tuesday suspended the life sentence of former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and granted him conditional bail. Sengar was convicted of raping a minor victim in 2017 and was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2019. The victim and her family are extremely scared by this decision of the court. He is worried about his and his family’s safety.

After this, the victim, her mother and Yogita Bhayana protested at India Gate, but the police removed them from there. This incident was also criticized by Rahul Gandhi.

Victim’s plea: Demand for justice and security

On reaching 10 Janpath, the victim clearly said that she had come to share her problems. After the meeting he expressed hope that Rahul Gandhi would help him. The victim described the court’s decision as ‘time’ for her family and said that she would challenge the decision in the Supreme Court.

This case is of 2017, when a minor girl was raped in Unnao. The victim had gone to seek a job when Sengar committed this heinous crime. The case shook the entire country. Now after getting bail, the victim is again living in fear.

This incident is raising questions on the justice system. The victim’s fight continues and she is hoping for justice by meeting big leaders.
