Producer Naga Vamsi recently addressed widespread speculation surrounding the Telugu distribution of War 2 which released in theatres on August 14 2025. Directed by Ayan Mukerji the action thriller stars Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR marking Jr NTR’s much-awaited Bollywood debut. Given the film’s massive scale and hype expectations were extremely high ahead of its release. Soon after the film hit theatres social media was flooded with claims that Naga Vamsi had suffered heavy financial losses. Many posts alleged that he had invested close to Rs 100 crore and was struggling after the film failed to meet box office expectations in the Telugu states. These rumours continued to gain traction prompting the producer to finally clarify the truth. What did Naga Vamsi say? Responding to the speculation Naga Vamsi explained the actual financial structure of the deal and dismissed claims of massive losses. Speaking candidly he said “Everyone on Twitter keeps speculating how much loss I’ve faced with War 2. I bought it for Rs 68 crore. It brought me a share of Rs 35-40 crore. Yash Raj Films called me to refund Rs 18 crore. I had already put forth this condition beforehand. Despite being a Bombay-based company and a corporate production house they stuck to their word and returned this amount. So I hardly faced any losses here.” The box office of War 2 War 2 collected Rs 56.74 crore in the Telugu markets in India. The film’s total India net collection stood at Rs 236.55 crore while the worldwide box office figure reached Rs 364.35 crore. Despite these numbers the film received mixed reviews which affected its long-term momentum at the box office. The film had a brutal clash with Thalaivar Rajinikanths Coolie helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The gap between pre-release expectations and actual audience response led to exaggerated assumptions about distributor losses especially in regional markets.
