An underrated European country will be connected to the UK with a new direct flight via Wizz Air. The budget airline has announced a slew of new routes from London Luton Airport beginning on June 13, 2026. For the first time, direct flights will connect the UK capital to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. The small country is often considered part of Europe, but is sometimes labelled as Asian as it sits between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea.

The small nation, which borders Iran, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia, has been slowly growing in popularity among tourists in recent years, but it is a place that many people from the UK have never considered visiting before. It received around 2.2 million tourists in 2024, with its popularity continuing into 2025. Flights from London Luton to Yerevan start at around £36.99 and will depart once per week.

Anastasia Novak, Corporate and Sustainability Communications Manager at Wizz Air, said: "We are very pleased to add London to our route network from Armenia.

"With each new expansion of our operations, we reaffirm our commitment to providing passengers with a wider selection of destinations and maximum travel comfort, while maintaining affordable fares and high flight reliability."

Yerevan has a slew of things to do for tourists. Among the top places to visit in the Armenian capital is Republic Square, one of the main hubs of the city. There is also the scenic Cafesjian Center for the Arts, with its stunning gardens and steps making for a brilliant backdrop for a photo.

Museums are aplenty in Yerevan, including the Museum of Ancient Manuscripts, the ARARAT Museum and the Parajanov Museum. Other tourist attractions are Yerevan Park, which is full of fairground rides, and the Dancing Fountains.

There is plenty to do in other parts of Armenia as well, including its gorgeous mountainous landscape. The city and the wider country have received praise from tourists from all over the world.

One travel blogger, known online as Kam, described Yerevan as her "favourite city". She praised it for being full of great cafes, which serve up delicious local hot drinks and refreshments.

Meanwhile, one Reddit user said: "Armenia is home to a fascinating blend of unique architecture, beautiful art, stunning landscapes, and Soviet leftovers. I'd highly recommend visiting!"

A second shared: "Amazing. Love the mix of ancient and more recent Armenian architecture and the occasional dash of Soviet-era brutalism."

A third wrote: "Such an amazing place! Beautiful scenery, friendly locals, and incredible history. Both Armenia and Georgia are hidden gems."
