BMC Elections 2026: On the third day of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections nomination process, 2,040 nomination papers were given. Seven candidates submitted their candidacy papers on Friday. Interestingly, the children of infamous mobster Arun Gawli also got involved.
Geeta Gawli, a former corporator, and her younger sister Yogita Gawli submitted their nominations from the Byculla ward on the Akhil Bharatiya Sena ticket. Yogita Gawli filed from Ward No. 207, while Geeta Gawli filed from Ward No. 212. As a result, there are already nine contenders who have submitted nominations in the first three days.
On Tuesday, December 23, nomination papers for the Mumbai municipal council elections were distributed. During office hours on Friday, 23 Returning Officer offices distributed 2,040 nomination papers, and seven nominations were received. Nine candidates have already submitted their applications out of the 9,049 nomination papers that have been circulated over the last three days. Nominations must be submitted by December 30, 2025.
4,165 nomination papers were issued on December 23 and 2,844 on December 24, when two nominations were lodged, in accordance with the election timetable for the municipal elections that the State Election Commission had specified. Seven nominations were filed and 2,040 papers were distributed on the third day of the process, December 26.
In the 2017 municipal elections, Geeta Gawli was chosen from Ward No. 212 to serve as a corporator. This is Yogita Gawli’s first time running for office. Vandana Gawli, their aunt, lost the 2017 election after winning from Ward No. 207 in 2012. A few months ago, Vandana Gawli became a member of the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction).
