A shocking picture has come to light that the doctors who save the lives of the patients themselves are getting stuck in the clutches of diseases. Shortage of doctors in hospitals, heavy workload, long duty hours and mental pressure are causing a large number of doctors to succumb to serious lifestyle- diseases, a new study has revealed. This information has been revealed in a study recently published in the ‘Journal of Mid-Life Health’. 265 doctors from seven states of the country including Delhi were included in this study. In this online study which lasted for four months in 2025, the health, lifestyle, habits and nature of work of doctors were studied in depth. This research was led by S.N. The findings of the study are very alarming. As many as 48 percent of the doctors who participated in the survey were found to be suffering from high blood pressure. 23 percent of doctors are diabetic patients. In addition, 14 percent of doctors found serious problems like high cholesterol, thyroid and heart disease. Some doctors also struggle with obesity, the study noted. Not only this, some doctors have also found harmful habits like smoking. Researchers say many doctors are turning to such habits due to constant stress and mental fatigue. According to the researchers, it is imperative for doctors to have regular health check-ups, proper work-life balance, mental health support and solid wellness guidelines at the organizational level for themselves.

The reasons behind these diseases are also explained in the study. Long duty, continuous night shifts, heavy mental stress, insufficient sleep and irregular diet are all contributing to the deteriorating health of doctors. The fact that many times doctors don’t get time to pay attention to their own health has emerged from the study. This study is particularly important in the context of Delhi. Doctors in the capital’s government and private hospitals are under a lot of work pressure. Although the name of any specific hospital in Delhi was not disclosed in the study, it was clarified that doctors from various levels in the capital were involved in the research.
