News India Live, Digital Desk: Well-known Bollywood singer Jubin Nautiyal has recently approached the Delhi High Court to protect his ‘Personality Rights’. Zubin is a popular singer and he fears that people may mislead him by using his pictures, voice and name, or take advantage of it. The bench of Delhi High Court Justice Anup Malhotra has issued notice in this matter and asked various companies, individuals and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of the Government of India to file their replies within four weeks. What is the matter of ‘Personality Rights’? Actually, ‘Personality Rights’ is the right of a person to control the use of his personal characteristics like name, identity, image and voice. This right becomes even more important for celebrities, as their identities are often used for publicity or malicious purposes without permission. Jubin Nautiyal’s case is also to this. What are Jubin’s concerns? Singer Jubin Nautiyal’s lawyers told the court that some unknown companies, individuals and institutions are earning profits by using Jubin’s name, photo, voice and image without his permission. This may also include defrauding people of money by creating a fake account of Zubin or organizing fake events with the intention of cheating. They want to stop these permanent and temporarily released images and their accompanying advertisements, as well as the use of all or part of their images without permission in live music shows and commercials. Zubin does not want people to misuse his name and identity to mislead the public or take advantage of it. They are appealing to the court to protect their rights. Judge Malhotra has asked the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of the Government of India, Jubin Nautiyal, Social Media Platforms Earlier, actors Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff had also gone to Delhi High Court in similar cases and got decisions in their favor. This shows that even in India, celebrities are becoming aware about ‘Personality Rights’. Jubin Nautiyal’s lawyers include Nitin Chopra and Mayank Monga. This case can prove to be not only for Zubin but also an important step towards strengthening the ‘Personality Rights’ law in India.
