New Delhi: Discussions surrounding the Indian cricket teams coaching structure have intensified once again. Following a series of disappointing results in the recent home Test series questions are being raised about Gautam Gambhirs role. Although his contract is still long-term upcoming major tournaments could determine his future. BCCI Deliberates on Test Team Leadership The BCCI is yet to finalize whether Gambhir will continue to lead the red-ball team for the remaining nine Test matches of the 2025–27 World Test Championship cycle. Discussions on this matter are ongoing within the board. T20 World Cup Could Be a Turning Point Gautam Gambhirs current contract extends until the 2027 ODI World Cup but the T20 World Cup starting in five weeks is considered crucial. A successful campaign such as retaining the title or reaching the final could strengthen Gambhirs position. Poor performance however could change the equation. Limited Options and Laxmans Role Coaching options in the red-ball format are limited. VVS Laxman is reportedly not interested in coaching the senior Test team and is content with his role as Head of Cricket at the Bengaluru-based Centre of Excellence. This leaves the BCCI with no immediate viable alternatives. Dressing Room Atmosphere and Player Concerns According to sources there is an atmosphere of uncertainty in the current dressing room. While Rahul Dravids tenure provided players with clear roles and long-term security several players reportedly feel insecure under Gambhirs leadership. Shubman Gills exclusion from the T20 World Cup squad has further fueled these concerns.
