Shirva police arrest inter-district bike thief, recover five two-wheelers

Shirva: Taking a college student’s bike theft case seriously, Shirva police conducted a swift operation and successfully arrested an inter-district two-wheeler thief.

The accused has been identified as Om Kolar. Police recovered around five two-wheelers from his possession and produced him before the court, following which he was remanded to judicial custody.

Case background:
On December 5, student Kaushik had parked his Honda Activa scooter near the Bantakallu Durgaparameshwari Temple at around 12.45 pm while he went for lunch. When he returned, he found the scooter missing. A complaint was later registered at the Shirva police station. The stolen scooter was valued at around ₹60,000.

Police operation:
After registering the case, Shirva police formed a special team to trace the accused. The team conducted operations across several locations including Udupi, Malpe, Karkala and Dharmasthala, and eventually arrested Om Kolar.

Serial thefts revealed:
During sustained interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to committing bike thefts not only in Shirva, but also in Kapu and various parts of Bengaluru city. Police recovered a total of five two-wheelers, including one stolen within the limits of Shirva police station and four others stolen from Kapu and Bengaluru.

Team commended:
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Karkala Assistant Superintendent of Police Dr Harsha Priyamvada and Kapu Circle Inspector Azmath Ali. Shirva police sub-inspectors Manjunath Marbad and Lohith Kumar C.S., along with staff members Manjunath Adiga, Dayanand Prabhu, Anwar Ali, Siddarayappa, Manjunath Hosamani, Kiran, Shivanandappa and Basavaraj, were part of the team. The timely action by the police has drawn appreciation from the public.
