PADANG – The 2026 World Cup is seen as a major source of inspiration for young people aspiring to build a career in football.

West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi Ansharullah stated that many children in the province dream of becoming football players.

Mahyeldi shared this observation after leading the commemoration ceremony for Pancasila Day at the West Sumatra Governor’s Office courtyard on Monday (June 1, 2026).

He explained that this aspiration among the youth became evident during his Ramadan Safari visits held recently.

For that reason, Mahyeldi believes the 2026 World Cup can serve as a valuable learning opportunity for them to witness firsthand the gameplay of the world’s best teams.

The 2026 World Cup is scheduled to take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.

According to Mahyeldi, the tournament will be a meaningful educational moment for young people who aspire to become professional footballers.

He also highlighted that the World Cup broadcast through TVRI will allow a wider audience—especially Indonesian children—to watch and learn from top international matches.

“Alhamdulillah, the World Cup will be broadcast on TVRI. I think this is a very positive step, as it enables our community, particularly children who love football, to enjoy and learn from these matches,” Mahyeldi said.

He noted that the global event can serve as a strong source of motivation for the younger generation dreaming of a football career.

“Many children I’ve met have told me they want to become football players. This is a noble and remarkable aspiration. Therefore, the World Cup is an excellent chance for them to learn from the world’s top players,” he added.

Mahyeldi emphasized that the matches played throughout the tournament can also serve as a benchmark for evaluating the progress of Indonesian football.

He said that not only young players but also coaches and football enthusiasts can gain insights from the strategies, discipline, training patterns, and competitive spirit shown by participating nations.

“We can evaluate how our football is developing. The positive aspects we see in the World Cup can be adapted and applied to improve Indonesian football,” he remarked.

Mahyeldi further stated that the advancement of football is not solely determined by individual talent but also by consistent training programs, discipline, and strong teamwork.

Therefore, he hopes the 2026 World Cup will be used as a collective learning experience rather than merely as entertainment.

“This event should serve as a learning platform for coaches, football lovers, and our young generation. Hopefully, it will ignite a new spirit to advance Indonesian football,” he concluded.

Mahyeldi also expressed his hope that more children in West Sumatra will be motivated to develop their talents in sports—especially football—so that one day they can compete both nationally and internationally.
