According to this proposal, students will be able to complete their MBBS academic studies, along with the mandatory Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI), within a total timeframe of 10 years.

What Are the New Draft Rules?

Under the existing regulations, it is mandatory for any student to complete the entire MBBS course within 9 years from the date of admission. If a student fails to complete the course within this period, they may face various administrative and academic difficulties. The NMC now recognizes that, under certain circumstances, students may require additional time. With this in mind, a proposal has been put forward to grant an additional one year. Although the NMC has proposed extending the time limit for completing the course, a crucial regulation regarding the First Professional MBBS Examination will remain unchanged. Under the current framework, a student is granted a maximum of four attempts to pass the First Professional MBBS Examination. The NMC has clarified that no changes to this specific rule have been proposed.

If this amendment is implemented, it will primarily benefit students who have faced interruptions in their studies due to health issues, family circumstances, personal reasons, or other academic challenges.
