jakarta, 3 June. India’s young shuttler Ayush Shetty made a strong comeback on Wednesday and entered the second round of the Indonesia Open badminton tournament. But H.S. Pranay and Unnati Hooda had to face defeat in the first round itself.

At present, the biggest blow to the Indian campaign in the Super 1000 tournament of the BWF Tour was when the star pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who ended the title drought of two years and became champions in the Singapore Open on Sunday, withdrew in the middle of the match.

Ayush defeated world number 15 Chinese competitor Hong Yang Cheng

World number 20 Ayush created an upset on court number three of Istora Senayan and despite losing the first game, defeated world number 15 Chinese shuttler Hong Yang Cheng 8-21, 22-20, 21-15 in a struggle that lasted 66 minutes.

After a crushing defeat in the first game, 21-year-old Ayush made a strong comeback after trailing 11-15 in the second game and dragged the match into the third and deciding game. Badminton Asia Championship silver medalist Ayush completely dominated the third and deciding game to enter the second round where he will face Lee Cheuk Yu of Hong Kong.

Prannoy loses to Irish shuttler Anhat in three games

However, after slipping to number 35 in the world rankings, 33-year-old HS Prannoy had to face defeat in three games against Ireland’s Anhat Nguyen in the first round itself by 17-21, 21-16, 19-21. After losing the first game of a 72-minute dilemma, Prannoy came back and won the second game, but despite presenting a tough challenge in the third and deciding game, he lost.

Unnati defeated by Japanese Okuhara

In the women’s singles, world number 23 Unnati Hooda was defeated by Japanese Nojomi Okuhara 21-15, 21-14 in just 38 minutes. In women’s singles, the only Indian challenge is now left in the form of PV Sindhu. World number 12 Sindhu will face reigning Olympic champion and world number one Korean legend An Se-young on Thursday. Former world number one Sindhu has a match record of 0-9 against An Se-young.

Rohan-Gadde pair in second round in mixed doubles

Apart from Ayush, India’s second success of the day came in the mixed doubles, when the 41st-ranked pair of Rohan Kapoor and Ritwika Gadde made it to the second round with a 21-14, 21-14 win against Chinese Taipei’s Po Suan Yang and Ling Feng Hu in 36 minutes.

Indian pair had to withdraw due to problem in Satwik’s right shoulder.

However, Indian supporters were disappointed when Satwik and Chirag had to withdraw from the first round of men’s doubles within seven minutes. When the Indian pair was trailing 6-11 against the Malaysian team of Keng Khai Shing and Aaron Tye, Satwik was seen pointing towards his right shoulder. The match was stopped here and soon the Indian pair announced their withdrawal from the match.
