21 people died in a fire that broke out in a hotel in Malviya Nagar area of Delhi. 10 fire tenders brought the fire under control. The name of the owner of the hotel where the fire broke out is Lavkesh Bajaj. There are three partners in the hotel. There are many more hotels and guest houses here.
Group Medical Director of Max Hospital, Sandeep Budhiraja said that after the fire in Malviya Nagar, 39 patients were brought to Max Hospital today. 18 were brought dead. Currently 8 are on ventilator. The condition of five was stable and they have been discharged. He told that people’s bones have also been broken when they jumped from the building. Someone’s hand and someone’s leg were broken. The condition of some is critical.
The hotel did not have fire NOC. PG was running on the roof of the hotel. Most of the dead are citizens of African origin. There was a hotel named Flourish Stay and below it was a restaurant named Lemon Green, in which there is a possibility of fire.
Hours after at least 21 people died in a massive fire that broke out in a hotel in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area, a huge crowd of bereaved relatives, friends and acquaintances gathered in the waiting room of Max Hospital in Saket on Wednesday (June 03), desperately searching for their loved ones. The waiting room of the hospital was full of people looking at the list, frantically calling and asking for information from the authorities.
Meanwhile, victims of the fire were being brought to the hospital for treatment and identification. A relative sobbed and said, “No one can be recognized from the photo, everyone is burnt.” Namit Goyal, who was among these people, said that six of his relatives were caught in the fire. Of these, four bodies have been identified, while two are yet to be identified, leaving the family going through a period of painful uncertainty.
He said, ‘Four bodies are in Max Saket mortuary and two bodies are in another hospital. We are trying to trace them.” According to family members, these six family members had come from Gurugram for treatment and were staying in the hotel at the time of the fire. On the other side of the hospital, a person named Vivek was searching for his 25-year-old friend Sujita, who is suspected to have also fallen prey to the fire.
He said that police officers showed him photographs of the victims for identification, but he could not find Sujitha in them. Vivek said, “I am not able to recognize him, even his phone cannot be found.” The fire broke out in a bed-and-breakfast hotel called ‘Flourish Stay’ in the crowded Hauz Rani area, causing panic among the people trapped inside.
Many people were evacuated from the premises, while witnesses recalled horrifying scenes as the building was engulfed in thick smoke and people were frantically running for their lives.
A police officer present at the hospital said that at least 21 people have died in this accident and more than 40 people have been rescued. He said that more than 20 victims have been brought to Max Saket. The cause of the fire is not yet known and investigation into the matter is ongoing.
