The state government has taken a big step after the alleged conversion cases in medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh. In fact, on the instructions of Governor and Chancellor Anandiben Patel, a special cell will be formed in all the medical and dental colleges of the state to prevent religious conversion. Necessary instructions have been issued to all the institutions in this regard.
In fact, this decision has been taken taking seriously the alleged conversion cases to King George’s Medical University (KGMU) and Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow. On the basis of the letter from Dr. Sudhir M. Bobde, Officer on Special Duty to the Governor, Vice Chancellor of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University, Dr. Amit Devgan has instructed all the affiliated medical and dental colleges to immediately constitute a special cell. Also, colleges have been asked to provide information about cell formation soon.
What will be the responsibility of SAIL?
According to the instructions issued, anti-conversion cell will be formed in every medical and dental college. Actually this cell will run awareness campaigns among students, resident doctors and staff. Apart from this, the institute will also work to keep an eye on any suspicious activity in the campus. The objective of this cell will be to maintain a safe educational environment and ensure action on complaints received as per rules. The college administration has also been asked to inform students and staff about their rights, rules and responsibilities.
Instructions issued after KGMU case
In fact, recently a case to KGMU of Lucknow came to light, after which a need has been felt to increase surveillance on this subject. Please note that the police had arrested a resident doctor of the pathology department in this case. The allegation was that he pressurized a girl to convert to religion by promising her marriage. Keeping similar cases in mind, the Governor has decided to implement special monitoring system in all medical institutions.
