The FIFA World Cup 2026 Group J match will see Argentina take on Algeria in a highly anticipated encounter.
The Argentina vs Algeria game is scheduled for Wednesday, 17 June, kicking off at 08:00 WIB or 09:00 WITA.
According to the official FIFA schedule, this Group J fixture will be played at Kansas City Stadium, United States.
This clash carries strong emotions, as it marks the beginning of Argentina’s campaign in a tournament that could be the final World Cup appearance for Lionel Messi.
Argentina enter the competition as one of the top favourites.
Under Lionel Scaloni, they come with a strong record, finishing at the top of the South American 2026 World Cup qualification standings.
On the other hand, Algeria are far from being mere participants.
They qualified with impressive performances in the African zone, winning Group G under coach Vladimir Petkovic — a sign that this contest will not be one-sided.
Argentina received good news as goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez has recovered from a finger injury.
His return provides additional stability to the defensive line.
In midfield, both Leandro Paredes and Nico González are back to full fitness.
However, Argentina will be without Nicolás Tagliafico, who is sidelined with a calf injury, leaving Facundo Medina or Valentín Barco as potential replacements at left-back.
Algeria face similar defensive issues, with Ramy Bensebaini still recovering from an ankle injury. His position will likely be contested between Samir Chergui and Zineddine Belaid.
Nevertheless, Algeria’s attacking options remain strong. Amine Gouiri is fit again and expected to pair up with Mohamed Amoura, the top scorer in the qualification phase.
Predicted Line-ups: Argentina vs Algeria
Argentina will still be missing Leandro Paredes, Nico Paz, and Julián Álvarez for this match.
However, coach Lionel Scaloni has several versatile players capable of filling multiple roles.
He may also deploy Giuliano Simeone and Nico González on the wings if La Albiceleste struggle to break down Algeria’s defence.

Match Prediction: Argentina vs Algeria
Argentina head to Kansas City not only as defending World Cup champions but also eager to lift another trophy for their legendary captain, Lionel Messi.
Scaloni’s men are in fine form, with seven wins and just one loss in their last eight matches.
However, most of those victories came against relatively weaker teams such as Zambia (5-0), Honduras (2-0), and Iceland (3-0).
The decision by the Argentine Football Association (AFA) to schedule less challenging opponents in friendlies may prove either beneficial or problematic when facing Algeria.
While Argentina have avoided serious injury concerns, the World Cup brings a different level of competition.
Algeria, ranked 28th by FIFA, are a much tougher challenge compared to Iceland (74th) or Honduras (65th).
Argentina must also consider Messi’s workload — at nearly 39 years old, he is unlikely to play every match in full. Scaloni may implement rotation when necessary.
According to TyC Sports, Scaloni might switch between 4-4-2 and a 3-5-2 system, with Messi operating as a free-roaming playmaker and Lautaro Martínez replacing the unfit Julián Álvarez.
Argentina’s main strength lies in their dynamic midfield trio — Alexis Mac Allister, Rodrigo De Paul, and Enzo Fernández — who will look to control the tempo.
Meanwhile, Petkovic’s Algeria will try to disrupt that rhythm. Although Algeria have qualified for the World Cup five times, this current generation looks more balanced and dangerous.
In their four friendlies since March 2026, Algeria have won three and drawn once (against Uruguay), including a 1-0 win over the Netherlands and a 4-0 victory over Bolivia.
Score Prediction: Argentina vs Algeria
Argentina boast an exceptional defensive record, conceding only once in their last five matches — a crucial foundation to counter Algeria’s fast wing attacks.
While Algeria have shown attacking flair in qualifiers, they often struggle against teams with compact defences. This could be a significant hurdle if they fail to exploit openings.
Considering all factors, Argentina remain favourites to dominate proceedings. The match is predicted to end in a win for La Albiceleste, though Algeria are expected to offer resistance at certain moments.
Pangkalpinang Police Chief Confident Germany Will Win
AKBP Indra Wijatmiko, Chief of Pangkalpinang Police, expressed confidence that Germany will emerge as champions in the 2026 World Cup.
His optimism follows Germany’s emphatic 7-1 victory over Curaçao in their opening Group E match.
In the game held at Houston Stadium, German stars like Kai Havertz contributed significantly, scoring twice.
“At the moment, I am backing Germany to win the 2026 World Cup,” said AKBP Indra Wijatmiko on Monday, 15 June 2026.
The senior officer believes that the blend of experienced and young players under Julian Nagelsmann will guide Die Mannschaft to their fifth World Cup title.
Among the veterans, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer remains a solid presence at 40 years old, while 31-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich continues to lead as captain and a role model.
On the younger side, 22-year-old Nathaniel Brown also found the net against Curaçao, and Jamal Musiala, dubbed a German wonderkid, has become a key player for both Germany and Bayern Munich.
“I support Germany because they play attractive football and have world-class stars,” he added.
Given the Group E dynamics, Germany are predicted to top their group, with opponents like Curaçao, Ivory Coast, and Ecuador yet to win a World Cup.
“I am confident — Germany will win,” he concluded.
