Months of speculation suggested that Shah Rukh Khan might make a surprise appearance in Jailer 2 , the sequel to Rajinikanth’s 2023 blockbuster. But the suspense has now ended — the superstar will not be joining the action this time. According to a post by Box Office South India on X (formerly Twitter), SRK is officially not part of the project, despite earlier discussions. While that may disappoint some fans, there’s still a massive surprise in store.

A new Bollywood A-lister is set to join the cast

Even though Shah Rukh Khan won’t be appearing, the buzz around Jailer 2 remains strong. As per a report by News18, the producers are set to cast a major Bollywood star in a pivotal role. Though the name hasn’t been revealed yet, an official announcement is expected soon. The secret casting move is aimed at adding more star power to a film already packed with big names.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 picks up immediately after the explosive events of the first film. Rajinikanth reprises his role as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, the fierce and unforgettable former jail warden. The original film blended a clever heist narrative with themes of revenge, featuring surprise cameos by stars like Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, and Jackie Shroff — all of whom are expected to return for the sequel.

New additions, new villains?

Reports suggest that Telugu cinema legends may also join the sequel. Nandamuri Balakrishna is reportedly set to make a guest appearance, while Nagarjuna Akkineni has been approached to play the main antagonist. However, these casting details are still under discussion and have not been officially confirmed.

In parallel, Rajinikanth is in the final stages of shooting Coolie, his much-anticipated collaboration with director Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film, set to release on August 14, 2025, features a star-studded ensemble including Nagarjuna, Upendra Rao, and even a special cameo by Aamir Khan. Shruti Haasan and Soubin Shahir also star, with Pooja Hegde delivering a sizzling dance number.

While Shah Rukh Khan may have stepped away from Jailer 2, the film continues to make headlines with its bold casting choices and the promise of another action-packed ride — led once again by the ever-electrifying Rajinikanth.
