Old vehicles will not get petrol and diesel in Delhi from July 1

New Delhi: The Delhi government is going to make a big change since 1 July 2025. Now 10 -year -old diesel and 15 -year -old petrol and CNG vehicles will not be able to get fuel from petrol pumps in the capital. The purpose of this decision is to control air pollution in the capital.

Old vehicles will be identified, anpr cameras are installed on the pump

Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras will be used to identify old trains. These cameras are directly linked to the Vahan database and as soon as a vehicle arrives at the petrol pump, the camera will scan its number plate. If the vehicle is found to be an end-of-life vehicle (ELV) or would not have a valid PUCC, the operator will get an audio alert.

200 teams will monitor, SOP released

The Delhi government is deploying 200 teams for this campaign, which will include MCD, Transport Department and Traffic Police. A standard operating procedure (SOP) has also been issued to petrol pumps, under which vehicles violating the rules will be seized. Information about seized vehicles will be given weekly to the CAQM and the Ministry of Petroleum.

Heavy fine and seizure action

According to government data, Delhi has about 62 million ELVS. On violation of rules:

  • Four wheel train: ₹ 10,000 fine
  • Two wheel train: fine of ₹ 5,000
  • Application in 3 weeks on seizing vehicle, and decisions in 7 days

Action will be taken under Section 192 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 on breaking the rules by petrol pump owners.

Public opinion is divided

According to a survey by LocalScils: “44% of the vehicles of Delhi disagree with the government’s move. He says that some vehicles are in good condition and they have paid the entire fee for registration.”

Although 49% of people are supporting the scheme, 7% did not give any clear opinion. The survey was conducted in 11 districts of Delhi and more than 25,000 reactions were received.
