Strengthening Security Measures in Tripura

Agartala, June 29: In light of escalating worries regarding the situation in Bangladesh, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has urged security forces to bolster surveillance and improve border security throughout Tripura, which shares an 856-km border with Bangladesh on three sides.

During the inauguration of the State's inaugural Cyber Police Station at AD Nagar, Dr. Saha expressed his concerns about cross-border infiltration and the increasing use of Tripura as a route for drug trafficking.

“It is crucial to enhance security measures. Our State is becoming a hub for drug smuggling and narcotics. Infiltration remains a significant issue,” he stated.

Dr. Saha also highlighted the dangers posed by interactions between individuals on both sides of the border. “There are indications that some people are communicating with those across the border. The advent of AI-enabled 5G technology could exacerbate the situation,” he warned.

Comparing modern and traditional warfare, the Chief Minister noted, “A mobile phone can be more lethal than an AK-47. Advanced technology has transformed conflict; modern warfare can be initiated with just a click.”

Referring to cybercrime as a “shadow war,” Dr. Saha emphasized the necessity for digital readiness among security forces. He called on the public and law enforcement to stay alert and raise awareness about cyber fraud. “Security personnel must be equipped digitally to combat cybercriminals and safeguard the public from online scams,” he remarked.

The newly established cyber police station will address all cybercrime-related issues across Tripura. The central government has allocated Rs 5 crore for this initiative, with Rs 45 lakh already disbursed.
