Starting July 1, fares will increase, particularly in AC classes. The Railway Ministry has approved a fare hike of ₹0.02 per kilometer for AC travel.

For a journey from Bhopal to Delhi (approx. 700 km) in 3AC, the current fare is ₹1090. After July 1, this fare will rise by approximately ₹14, making it ₹1104.

While this hike seems minor on short routes, passengers on long-distance trains could feel the difference more prominently, especially those booking multiple AC tickets.

2. Stricter Rules for Tatkal Ticket Booking

The Tatkal ticketing system, which offers last-minute booking options, is set for tighter regulation. The goal is to reduce misuse and make tickets more accessible to genuine travelers.

Although full details haven’t been officially released yet, insiders suggest that Indian Railways may:

• Restrict bulk bookings or multiple Tatkal attempts from the same IP/device

• Add OTP-based authentication before final booking

• Enforce stricter cancellation and refund terms for Tatkal tickets

These steps are aimed at eliminating ticket hoarding by agents and bots, making it easier for real passengers to get confirmed Tatkal tickets.
