Olympique Lyonnais Have officially announced the sale of Johann Lepenant (22) to FC Nantes, with Gones set to receive €2.5m for the France youth international. The midfielder had spent the season on loan with Nantes, where he played a key role in maintaining the club’s place in Ligue 1, making 31 appearances across all competitions.
Lepenant, a product of the SM Caen academy system, arrived at Lyon from his boyhood club in 2022. In his first season with Lyon, he showed promise and looked as if he would be staking a long-term place in the first team as he made 31 appearances in Ligue 1.
However, in the 2023/24 campaign, he found himself a peripheral player in the squad, a situation made worse after he suffered a significant injury during international duty with the France U21s. His loan to Nantes was a return to form for the midfielder, and Canaries will look to rely upon him heavily going into 2025/26.
