Apache AH-64E is the world’s most advanced multi-rol attack helicopter, operated by two turboshaft engine and telvheel-type landing gear. The helicopter has sensors on the nose to see at night and achieve goals. Its characteristics include:
30 mm m30 chain gun: This gun located under the torso is effective for accurate target.
AGM-114 Helphier missiles: capable of destroying enemy armored vehicles with anti-tank capacity.
Hydra 70 rocket pods: for sharp and fatal attacks.
Longbo radar: ability to detect 128 goals in a minute and give them priority.
This helicopter is particularly effective in desert areas, which is why it will be deployed in Jodhpur in Rajasthan, which is close to the Pakistan border.
The delivery of Apache helicopters will make the Indian Army more deadly, especially on the stressful border with Pakistan. After operation vermilion, consistent accuracy is required on the western border, and these helicopters will play an important role in anti-tank and reconnaissance missions. In addition, the capabilities of these helicopters will also provide strategic benefits to India along the Line of Real Control (LAC) with China.
Pakistan has planned to buy Chinese Z-10 at-out helicopters to combat Apache, but experts believe that Z-10Me is less effective than Apache, especially in high altitude campaigns.
The Indian Army has established a 451 Aviation Squadron in Natangala, Jodhpur in March 2024, which is specifically designed to operate the Apache helicopters. Pilots and ground staff have been trained in the US, but the squadron is still inactive due to delay in delivery of helicopters.
The delay in delivery of Apache helicopters has also drawn attention to India’s ‘self -sufficient Bharat’ campaign. Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) ‘Prachanda’ developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is considered more suitable for high altitude campaigns, and an order for its 156 units has already been approved. However, the strength of Apache in desert areas is unique, and it will further strengthen the capabilities of the Indian Army.
This delivery is not just the purchase of a helicopter, but is a symbol of close defense cooperation between India and the US. Boeing’s partnership with Tata Boeing Aerospace Limited (TBAL) in Hyderabad is building an Apache fushes in India, which promotes ‘Make in India’.
