With many appointments he was juggling simultaneously, it appeared that he was working as a Director of Engineering or Lead Developer at multiple firms, some of which lacked the information and resources to provide informed consent. As the story garnered more attention, the CEO of Synapse shared how difficult the situation was for him, claiming that Parekh’s productivity across positions made the decision to let him go virtually impossible. Perlow emphasized the possible trust and breach of contract issues involved. This exposure emerged after an employer’s complaint, which led Synapse to conduct an internal review concerning Parekh’s work and subsequently check his employment records. Self-reports confirm and support the hypothesis of multiple employments, in this case, Parekh’s.
In this regard, there are alarming concerns with the rigor applied to hiring and vetting candidates within the tech world, particularly within startups that emphasize agility. It illustrates the difficulties that organizations face in authenticating employment records in a highly competitive labor market.
