Clouds cover the sky of Madhya Pradesh, heavy rain warning in many districts including Raisen-Sehore, special alert issued for farmers

MP Monsoon Update:  With the beginning of July, the monsoon has become fully active in Madhya Pradesh. During the last 24 hours, the weather suddenly changed with heavy rain and thunderstorms in many districts. The Meteorological Department has also issued an alert for the coming days. This warning is considered very important for farmers and the general public.

Where did it rain in the last 24 hours

On July 3, rain was recorded at many places in Indore, Narmadapuram, Chambal, Jabalpur, Shahdol and Sagar divisions, while moderate to heavy rain occurred at most places in Bhopal, Ujjain, Gwalior and Rewa divisions. The highest rainfall figures were recorded in Byohari (103 mm), Sailana (97 mm), Chandia (95.2 mm), Tikamgarh and Jirapur (62 mm). The lowest minimum temperature of 15.2°C was recorded in Pachmarhi (Narmadapuram), while the highest maximum temperature of 35.2°C was recorded in Prithvipur (Niwari).

Districts with forecast and alert for 4th July

Today, i.e. on July 4, there is a warning of thunderstorms and strong winds along with rain in more than 50 districts of the state. Extremely heavy rain warning has been issued in Dindori, Katni, Seoni, Mandla and Balaghat. There is an alert of heavy rain with strong winds (30–40 km/h) in Raisen, Sehore, Guna, Shivpuri and Sheopur. Heavy rain is also expected in Singrauli, Sidhi, Rewa, Mauganj, Anuppur, Shahdol, Umaria, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, Damoh, Maihar, Pandhurna districts.

Weather forecast for the next two days

Rainfall is likely to continue in many districts of Madhya Pradesh for the next two days. Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Rewa, and Gwalior divisions may witness moderate to heavy rainfall along with strong winds. There may also be incidents of thunderstorms and lightning in some districts. There is a possibility of waterlogging especially in low lying areas and crop loss to farmers.

Monsoon conditions

The monsoon trough is currently extending from Bikaner, Sheopur, Khajuraho, Daltonganj to Digha and the Bay of Bengal. Apart from this, a cyclonic circulation is spreading to West Bengal and Chhattisgarh covering Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Gujarat. This is the reason why the effect of clouds and rain remains in the entire state due to moist winds.

Meteorological Department warnings and advisories

  • Heavy rains may cause waterlogging in low-lying areas and disruption of road and air traffic.
  • Farmers have been advised to avoid spraying pesticides or fertilizers on the crops.
  • It is advisable to stop sowing of soybean, maize or pulse crops for some time so that seed flow and germination is not hampered.
  • During storms, keep animals in safe places, and do not work in open fields.
  • To avoid incidents of lightning, do not take shelter under trees and stay away from open fields.
  • Before travelling, definitely check the weather department updates and if possible avoid unnecessary travel.
