BSNL is the country's government telecom company, which has been offering 3G and 4G network services for a long time. Recently, the company has started preparing for the launch of its 5G services. Along with this, BSNL also introduced a blockbuster flash sale, in which users were getting 1GB of data for just 1 rupee. This step has been taken to compete with big telecom companies like Airtel and Jio.
However, despite all these efforts, BSNL has received a big blow from the Madhya Pradesh Police. MP Police has issued an order to port about 80,000 BSNL numbers to Airtel. Read the full details of this case here.
Why were BSNL numbers ported?
Madhya Pradesh Police has had BSNL's CUG (Closed User Group) SIMs for years. These SIMs were used for internal communication, sending government documents, and calling. But now, when the new Indian Justice Code (BNS) is being implemented, which will require video recording, file uploading, and sending real-time documents, BSNL's slow and weak network service has become a problem.
Policemen are facing problems in uploading files in 3G and old 4G networks. The BSNL network is not available in many areas. Video calling and sending documents are facing frequent interruptions.
For these reasons, MP Police has decided that now all SIMs will be ported to Airtel, so that fast internet and better network service can be provided.
How many numbers will be ported and how?
In 2009, the MP Police first took 9000 BSNL SIM cards so that the officers' numbers do not change even after transfer. Later, as per the need, another 70,000 SIM cards were taken from BSNL. In this way, a total of 80,000 BSNL numbers are now being transferred to Airtel.
What is the porting process?
Bhopal's DCP Shraddha Tiwari has issued a notice in which it is written that first, the employees will be given a BSNL SIM. Then all the employees will recharge for Rs 10. PORT < 10-digit number> will have to be typed from the mobile and sent to 1900. After this, a UPC (porting code) will be received. Along with this code, the list of names, designations, and SIM numbers will have to be sent to the CUG Desk, Bhopal.
BSNL's preparation for 5G launch
While on one hand, government departments are leaving BSNL, the company recently announced that it will soon launch 5G network in many cities. Along with this, it is also trying to add users by bringing flash sales like 1GB data for 1 rupee.
But the question arises whether users will come back only with the offer, or is it more important to improve the network quality?
