The Al Zahia Run returned for its fifth edition on Sunday, July 6, bringing runners together at City Centre Al Zahia for a unique indoor race.
Organised as part of the Sharjah Sports Council’s community initiatives, the event encourages residents of all ages — especially children — to stay active and embrace fitness during the hot summer months.
Hamid Al Maala, Saif Al Alawi, and Hamid Al Hammadi claimed the titles in the fifth edition, with 450 participants competing across three categories covering distances of 800m, 4km, and 8km. The indoor race was held under the watchful eyes of mall visitors.

The event is part of the eleventh edition of Sharjah Sports Summer, “Our Holiday is Different,” which launched on Monday, June 30, and runs until July 31. This annual initiative is one of the most prominent events organised by the Council, featuring participation from the emirate’s sports and specialised clubs.

The programme targets boys and girls aged 7-12 years and 13-17 years, offering a diverse package of recreational and educational activities, Quran recitation, electronic gaming, various sports activities, and cultural competitions to be held at clubs, alongside awareness and educational workshops.
The evaluation committee will conduct visits to the Sharjah sports clubs to assess each club’s program implementation. After completing the evaluation process, based on established criteria, three winning sports clubs and three specialised clubs will be announced.

Participating in this edition are clubs including Al Sharjah, Al Bataeh, Al Hamriyah, Al Dhaid, Mleiha, Al Madam, Khor Fakkan, Dibba Al Hisn, Kalba, Sharjah Falconers, Sharjah Men’s Chess, Sharjah Equestrian and Racing, Al Thiqa for the Disabled, Khor Fakkan for the Disabled, Classic Cars, Sharjah International Marine Sports, Wadi Al Helo Ladies, and Sharjah Self-Defense Sports.
The programme includes five themed weeks: “I Am Creative,” “Here is Sharjah,” “I Am the Community,” “I Am Athletic,” and “I Am the Future.” The evaluation committee will use precise criteria to select winning sports and specialised clubs based on meeting the established standards.
