In a horrific incident, five members of a family were allegedly killed and their bodies were burnt on the suspicion of practising witchcraft in Bihar's Purnea district, according to the police. Three people have been arrested in connection with the murders, and a manhunt has been launched to nab the other accused, the police said.
The cops said that the accused had burnt the bodies of the victims, possibly in a bush. The police are trying to ascertain the identity of the deceased.
Forensic experts and the dog squad are at the spot to assist the investigators and senior officials.
"Preliminary investigation suggests that five members of a family in Tetma village were first murdered on suspicion of practising witchcraft. It appears that the accused then burnt their bodies in a bush. The incident took place on Sunday night," DIG (Purnea) Pramod Kumar Mandal told PTI.
The accused are suspected to belong to the same family, Mandal said.
Meanwhile, Pankaj Kumar Sharma, SDPO Sadar Purnea, told ANI that the people of the entire village seem to be involved in the crime.
"We received information at 5 am that in a village under the Mufassil Police Station area, from one Sonu (16), that in the name of black magic and witchcraft, members of the Oraon community killed 5 members of his family. Police reached there and recovered all 5 charred bodies," he told ANI.
"3 people have been arrested, others are unidentified, and an investigation is being conducted for them. People of the entire village were involved," he added.

Opposition RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Monday claimed that law and order have completely collapsed in the state.
Yadav also listed several other murders that have taken place in Bihar recently.
"Five members of a family were killed and burned. Due to DK Tax, anarchy is at its peak in Bihar. DGP/Chief Secretary are helpless. Law and order situation has completely collapsed in the state," the RJD leader said in a post in Hindi on X. Yadav has been speaking about "DK Tax" in the past few months, but he never clarified who or what is DK.
"Day before yesterday in Siwan, three people were killed in a massacre. In recent days, three were killed in Buxar. In Bhojpur, three people were massacred. Criminals are in alert mode, and the chief minister is unconscious! DK is enjoying. Because DK is the real boss," he said.
