Sunderland AFC have joined the race to sign West Ham United centre-back Nayef Aguerd (29), according to a report from Market football. The Moroccan international defender is reportedly Marseille’s priority target to bolster Roberto De Zerbi’s options at the back following the exits of Chancel Mbemba and Luiz Felipe. Phocaeans have already signed Facundo Medina and CJ Egan-Riley, and the race to sign the former Rennes centre-back is heating up nicely.
Market football understands that Real Sociedad would be keen to retain Aguerd’s services after a season-long loan from West Ham. The Hammers are also expected to hear from AC Milan and AS Roma regarding the terms of Aguerd’s exit. They could also see a Premier League rival enquire about Aguerd as Sunderland have now joined the race for his signing. Aguerd is tied with the Hammers over a contract set to expire in 2027. He is reportedly undecided regarding his next move.
