Earthquakes have become a common occurrence in today's time. Earthquakes keep happening every day in many states of North India. Sometimes the tremors are so strong that even the house collapses. There is a loss of lakhs and crores of rupees. If you also live in an earthquake-prone area, then insurance becomes very important for you. Now, along with health insurance, accidental cover, and earthquake home insurance have also started. In this regard, Jagran Business spoke to Amarnath Saxena, Chief Technical Officer of Bajaj Allianz General Insurance. He gave us information about this. Let's know what he told.
Earthquake loss is also a part of the insurance policy.
Amarnath Saxena said that most general insurance policies cover the loss caused by an earthquake. We should choose a policy that includes earthquake protection, or add it as an additional cover. While taking insurance, make sure that the policy includes both the structure of the house and the goods (such as furniture, electronics). Homeowners living in earthquake-prone areas should get their entire property insured. On the other hand, tenants can take cover only for the goods.
He said that if you have a property or you run a business, then you should take 'Fire and Special Perils' insurance, which covers natural disasters like earthquakes and floods. The premium and claim depend on the seismic risk of the area and the quality of construction.
If you get injured in an earthquake, will you get a claim?
Amarnath Saxena said that if you get injured in an earthquake, you may need hospitalization, surgery, or trauma care. Therefore, choose a health insurance policy that includes emergency hospital, ambulance and cashless treatment. Along with this, also take personal accident cover, which gives financial assistance to the family in case of disability or death in an accident.
What is not covered in home insurance?
Amarnath Saxena told that home insurance does not cover losses caused by poor maintenance, or changes made without permission. It cannot include land subsidence or collapse. If the house is used for commercial purposes without informing, then your claim may be rejected. However, health insurance does not cover injuries caused by illegal activities or treatment without hospitalization.
If you live in a high-risk area, check your policy thoroughly and talk to an insurance advisor.
