Shubman Gill’s meteoric rise in Test cricket has reached new heights during the ongoing India vs England 2025 series. The young Indian star, often hailed as the future of Indian batting, has turned promise into performance with a series of match-defining innings.
Gill’s highest Test score came in spectacular fashion during the second Test at Edgbaston. He scored a marathon 269 off 387 balls, punishing the English attack with elegant drives, precise cuts, and calculated aggression. His knock powered India to a mammoth first-innings total of 587 and helped take complete control of the match.
As if a double century in the first innings wasn't enough, Gill returned in the second innings to score an unbeaten 161. Calm and composed, he guided India to a record-setting match total and became only the second batter in Test history to score 430+ runs in a single match, joining the likes of Graham Gooch.
Gill’s purple patch began with a classy 147 in the first Test at Headingley. Taking on the English bowlers in their own backyard, he combined aggression with maturity to notch up a high-quality century that helped India stay competitive in the opening encounter of the series.
In the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023, Gill scored a fluent 128 in the first innings. Facing a world-class Australian attack, he played some elegant drives and pulled shots, drawing praise for his composure and timing. This knock helped India secure a draw and retain the trophy.
Shubman Gill delivered a strong comeback during the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai in September 2024. After being dismissed for a duck in the first innings, Gill responded with a commanding performance in the second, scoring an unbeaten 119 runs off 176 balls. His composed innings featured 10 boundaries and 4 sixes, marking his fifth Test century.
