In the glitzy and glamorous world of Bollywood actors are always under high scrutiny. Whether its their red carpet appearance an interpersonal relationship or an opinion they are always under the public gaze that takes over the headline the next day and sparks a storm. One such similar event happened when a famous actress recently gave her opinion about dating a specific kind of man that was shown in her film. Her response not only took everyone by surprise but also invited a flood of trolling online. Why was Rashmika Trolled? The actress that we are talking about is none other than Rashmika Mandanna. In a recent conversation with Barkha Dutt Rashmika was questioned if she would date a man like Ranbir Kapoor’s character Ranvijay from Animal. Rashmika said “I truly believe that if you love someone and someone loves you the changes will happen.”. While her response might be coming from a place of heartfelt love the audience found it problematic and naïve. Ranvijays character had toxic possessiveness and aggression so Rashmikas reply didnt sit well with the audience. Barkha Dutt allegedly was also stunned by her response said “Do you actually think that you can change people? You know that’s a young and romantic idea?”. Rashmika explained that when two people are together from a young age their personalities tend to evolve. She said “You are still figuring out what you like and what you do not like. And when you grow up together…” She further explained how people change over time “When you remember your best friend or partner being a certain way maybe a decade earlier its surprising how different they are today. You’re just like ‘Do you remember how it was?’ And do you realise how much we have changed together? She remarked “Maybe I am just talking about those miracle partners or situations.” Reddit Reaction Reddit users were quick to comment on Rashmikas response. While some users labelled her a “pick me” others criticised her for romanticising the idea of fixing men in the name of love. One user commented “Women are not RESPONSIBLE for fixing anyone” while another stated “It’s embarrassing to see a grown woman say this.” Eventually what was probably an idea of Rashmikas romantic fairytale turned out to be a topic of debate about gender roles.
