India Urges Citizens To Avoid Non-Essential Travel To Iran Amid Escalating Tensions

Amid a rapidly deteriorating security situation in the Middle East, the Indian Embassy in Tehran has issued a fresh advisory, urging Indian citizens to steer clear of non-essential travel to Iran.

The warning, released Wednesday, follows weeks of heightened regional conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the embassy stated, “In view of the security-related developments over the past several weeks, Indian nationals are advised to carefully consider the evolving situation before undertaking non-essential travel to Iran. ”

Indian citizens already in Iran have been advised to remain alert and stay updated on the situation.

For those currently in Iran and looking to leave, the embassy confirmed that commercial flights and ferry services remain operational and available for use.

Regional Conflict Fuels Travel Warnings

The advisory comes on the heels of a dramatic surge in military hostilities, beginning with Israel’s launch of ‘Operation Rising Lion’ on June 13. That operation targeted Iranian military and nuclear infrastructure, marking a significant escalation in regional tensions.

Iran swiftly retaliated with a wave of missile and drone attacks on Israeli targets. In a show of unwavering support for Israel, the United States launched strikes on major Iranian nuclear facilities located in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan on June 22.

In response, Iranian forces fired back, striking Israeli-held territories and even targeting a U.S. military airbase in Qatar. The conflict, which spanned nearly two weeks, came to an abrupt halt on June 24 when Israel unilaterally paused its military operations—a decision publicly announced by - U.S. President Donald Trump.

Nuclear Disputes Remain At The Forefront

The current crisis has reignited global concerns over Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Washington has long argued that Tehran’s uranium enrichment program could pave the way for nuclear weapons development. Iran, however, continues to deny those accusations, insisting its nuclear activities are strictly for peaceful, civilian purposes.
