The central government has warned mobile users that the risk of cyber fraud is increasing rapidly through fake mobile apps. These apps can steal your personal information and banking details, which may cause you to suffer huge economic losses.

Thousands of people are getting victims of cheating every day

The latest report of the Ministry of Home Affairs states that about 6,000 people in the country are becoming victims of some cyber crime daily. At the same time, Reserve Bank of India (Rbi)) Cyber criminals are carrying out fraud of thousands of crores of rupees every year. The most dangerous thing about these fake apps is that they are very real apps in appearance. Once installed in the phone, they reach your bank account, password, location and other sensitive data.

What has been said in the government’s advisory?

According to the government advisory released on the National Cybercrime Portal, users have been advised to download the app only from authorized and safe sources.

• Android users: Install apps only from Google Play Store.
• iPhone users: Use only Apple App Store.
• If possible, download the apps from the company’s official website itself.

The government has clarified that downloading the app from any unknown website, pop-up link or third-party platform can be risky.

Take these precautions after installing the app

• Do not give excessive permission – such as a camera, mike or location permission only when it is absolutely necessary.
• Choose the option “Office While Using The App” – so that the app does not collect your information continuously.
• Delete unknown and unumed apps-and update the security settings of your device from time to time.
