Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Mahedi Hasan both had great games as Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka in the last match at the R. Premadasa Stadium, winning the T20I series. This is Bangladesh’s first T20I series win against Sri Lanka. They won easily, chasing 133 with 21 balls left.
Mahedi Hasan bowled well on a slow pitch, causing Sri Lanka many problems. He got his best score of 4 for 11, taking out the middle order after Sri Lanka lost some early wickets. Mahedi Hasan’s score is the best by any bowler in T20Is in Colombo, beating Harbhajan Singh’s record from the 2012 T20 World Cup against England (4/12).
Pathum Nissanka tried to keep the innings together with 46 off 39 balls, but Sri Lanka fell to 94 for 6 by the 15th over. Dasun Shanaka’s late score of 35 not out from 25 balls, with 22 runs in the last over, helped bring the total to 132 for 7, but it wasn’t enough.
Bangladesh reached the target without much trouble, even after losing Parvez Hossain Emon on the first ball. Tanzid played really well, hitting 73 not out off 47 balls, including six sixes. Litton Das supported him with 32 before getting out in the ninth over. Towhid Hridoy then joined Tanzid, and they scored 59 runs together, leading Bangladesh to win in 16.3 overs.
Sri Lanka’s bowlers couldn’t put enough pressure on Bangladesh after the first wicket, and both spinners and seamers had trouble stopping the runs. This loss was a bad end to the series for Sri Lanka, who won the first game but couldn’t keep up the momentum.
Brief scores: Sri Lanka 132/7 in 20 overs (Patum Nissanka 46, Dasun Shanaka Thushara 25) by eight wickets.
