Emma Watson, the famous actress from the Harry Potter movies, has been banned from driving for six months after being caught speeding in Oxford. She was driving her blue Audi at 38 miles per hour in a 30 mph zone on the evening of July 31, 2024.
The court hearing took place at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court. Emma already had nine points on her driving license from previous traffic offences. After this new speeding incident, the judge added three more points, which led to an automatic six-month driving ban. She was also fined a total of £1,044. Emma didn’t attend the court hearing herself, but her lawyer told the court that she is studying for a master’s degree in creative writing at the University of Oxford and is able to pay the fine.
Emma became a worldwide star after playing Hermione Granger in all eight Harry Potter films. Since then, she has acted in several popular movies, including Beauty and the Beast and Little Women. She also started a sustainable gin brand with her brother in 2023.
On the same day and at the same court, 76-year-old actress Zoë Wanamaker, who played Madam Hooch in Harry Potter, was also banned from driving for six months for a separate speeding offence. She was caught driving at 46 mph in a 40 mph zone on the M4 in Newbury, Berkshire, on August 7, 2024. Like Emma, she already had nine points on her license and received three more, which led to the driving ban. She was also fined £1,044. Her lawyer said she accepted the fine and did not ask for any special treatment.
