Schools Closed: Moradabad’s District Magistrate has called for a holiday for all students through 12th grade due to a rise in Kanwariya traffic. Schools within a 5 km belt of Delhi Road, Rampur Road, and Kanth Road will not hold classes on July 21 and July 23. Additional holidays will be observed on July 26, July 28, August 2, and August 4.

The DM’s directive applies to all institutions within the specified 5 km zone. Classes will be suspended on July 21, the following Monday, and again on July 23, which is the date of the Shivratri procession. The decision is tied to the annual Kanwar Yatra, when large numbers of devotees travel to collect water from the Ganges and deliver it to local shrines. The increased numbers often congest the highways, leading to temporary route changes and a general disruption of the regular traffic flow.

District administrations in Meerut and Muzaffarnagar have declared a closure of all schools and colleges up to the 12th standard from July 16 to July 23 to ensure the safety of students and to facilitate traffic arrangements for the Kanwar Yatra and the approaching Shivratri festival. In the orders issued by the District Magistrate of both districts, it has been clearly stated that basic, secondary, CBSE, ICSE, Madrasa Board institutions, degree colleges, and technical institutes will remain shut for the stated dates. The directive has emphasised strict compliance, warning that any school found open during the declared holidays will face punitive action.

In Bareilly, the District Magistrate has also ordered closure of schools on the first Monday of the Sawan month to accommodate the large number of Kanwariyas expected in the area. The Gola Kokarnath region of Lakhimpur Kheri will observe the same closure on the same date for the same reason, ensuring that all educational activity is paused to prevent any disruption to the festival traffic.
