Will Rishabh Pant Return To Bat In India’s First Innings After Retiring Hurt

Will Rishabh Pant Return To Bat in First Innings? India’s wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant had to be carried off the playing field in a sort of buggy-ambulance that was present at the ground, which looked like a golf cart, on day 1 of the IND vs ENG 4th Test in Manchester.

The Indian cricket team and their fans would be hoping that the injury to Pant isn’t a serious one and he is able to participate further in the match.

Pant was batting superbly, though in his characteristic risky manner, until he got hit on his right foot and had to retire hurt.

Pant scored 37 runs off 48 balls, clobbering two fours and a meaty six off seamer Brydon Carse, smoking Carse over long-on. He, along with Sai Sudharsan, forged a fourth-wicket partnership of 72 runs off 112 balls, and both looked set to bat till the end of the day with the pitch offering nothing much.

But Pant’s innings was cut short by an ill-fated injury that he sustained on his right foot while attempting a reverse-sweep off seamer Chris Woakes.

Pant missed the ball, and it hit him on the full toss on his foot. England appealed for an LBW, and upon being denied by the on-field umpire, England captain Ben Stokes took the review, which was wasted as it was revealed on UltraEdge that Pant had under-edged the ball on its way.

While Pant wasn’t out, he had to, soon after, leave the field as the blow from the ball on his right foot stung and pained him. He was seen hobbling before removing his shoes and socks as the team India physio ran in the field.

After much delay, it was decided that Pant would retire hurt and halt his innings. Ravindra Jadeja replaced Rishabh Pant in the middle.

The on-ground ambulance arrived near the pitchside to take Pant. As he sat on it, the camera captured Pant’s injury on the front part of his right foot, just below his little finger. The point where the ball had hit him on his foot was swollen, and blood trickled out of it.

IND vs ENG: Will Rishabh Pant Return To Bat In India’s First Innings After Retiring Hurt?

Rishabh Pant copped a blow on his right foot from a delivery from Chris Woakes as he missed his reverse sweep. He was in serious pain and left his innings, retiring hurt. He was reportedly taken to a hospital to get scans on it.

Yes, since it is an external injury, Rishabh Pant can return to bat during India’s first innings. However, he is unlikely to be fit enough to do wicket-keeping duties in this game, and Dhruv Jurel would then be required to keep wickets, as he did at Lord’s, where Pant had suffered a finger injury.
