Eight cities from Southeast Asia including three Vietnamese have been included in a list of 50 most attractive cities in the world in a new report.
The Southeast Asian representatives are Bali and Jakarta of Indonesia; Bangkok and Chiang Mai of Thailand; Singapore; and Da Nang, Hanoi and Nha Trang of Vietnam.
The Global Tourism City Attractiveness Index, developed by Yanolja Research, a global research institute specializing in the travel and tourism industry, ranks the appeal of 191 major global tourism cities based on social media data and tourist feedback.
This index reflects how tourists perceive and evaluate the charm and popularity of each destination. It is generated through sentiment analysis and measures the volume of positive and negative mentions associated with key tourism- terms, using social media data collected in 14 languages.
Bangkok, the Thailand’s capital, is famous for vibrant nightlife, bustling markets, street food, and iconic temples like the Grand Palace and Wat Arun. Chiang Mai, on the other hand, is renowned for its cultural richness, mountainous surroundings, handicrafts, and festivals like Yi Peng and Loy Krathong.
Nha Trang and Da Nang are known for their long, sandy beaches and high-end resorts while boasting a variety of temples, pagodas, and other religious sites that reflect the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of Vietnam.
Singapore is famous for its modern skyline, efficient infrastructure, vibrant cultural scene, and clean streets.
Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital, is the largest metropole in Southeast Asia known for its rich collection of colonial buildings, particularly those constructed during the Dutch colonial period, and ancient temples, while Bali is one of the most popular beach destinations in the region.
Japan’s Osaka was voted the world’s most attractive tourism city this year, followed by Paris and Kyoto.
