Atishi Takes Charge of AAP's Goa Unit

On Friday, Atishi, a prominent leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and former Chief Minister of Delhi, was appointed as the in-charge of the party's Goa unit. She will be replacing Pankaj Gupta, who is currently unwell.

As a key strategist and a significant figure in the national leadership, Atishi is expected to oversee organizational matters and strengthen AAP's presence in the coastal state ahead of the 2027 assembly elections.

Official Announcement from AAP

A formal statement released by Sandeep Pathak, the party's National General Secretary (Organization), noted, "Due to Pankaj Gupta's illness and unavailability, Atishi has been appointed as the in-charge of Goa. We wish her the best in her new responsibilities."

AAP's Political Journey in Goa

The AAP began its electoral journey in Goa during the 2017 assembly elections and secured victories in two constituencies, Velim and Benaulim, in the 2022 elections. The party is striving to expand its base beyond Delhi and Punjab, viewing Goa as a crucial state in its national expansion plans.

Atishi also serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly.

Political Tensions in Delhi

Meanwhile, political tensions continue in Delhi. The AAP is actively working to challenge the BJP government. On Friday, the party claimed that demolition notices had been issued for slum areas in Shalimar Bagh and Shahdara. AAP accused the BJP-led Delhi government of betraying the city's poor and reneging on its electoral promises.

There has been no immediate response from the BJP or the Delhi government regarding these allegations. During a press conference, Atishi stated, "The BJP distributed cards promising slum dwellers 'houses where slums are.' Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured that no slum would be demolished without alternative housing. Yet, within six months, slums across the city have been demolished. Now, in Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's constituency, notices have been issued to two slum areas."
