
New Delhi: Young and energetic Divya Deshmukh held her nerves to utmost perfection playing a draw against stalwart Koneru Humpy in the game 1 of the FIDE Women’s World Cup final in Georgia on Saturday. While both the players enjoyed their share of opportunities to take a lead but the result didn’t go in either’s favour.
The draw was achieved through repetition while Koneru was giving checks to Divya. The 19-year-old Divya was playing in the game with white pieces while Koneru stood firm on the board with black pieces. After Saturday’s draw, both the chess players get 0.5 points each with the second game of the entertaining finale to be played on Sunday.
The winner of the game will bag the title, while a draw in that game will take this contest to the tie-breaker which will be played on Monday.
