BYD is the largest electric car manufacturer in the world and while Tesla breathes down its neck, the Chinese EV brand continues to expand its portfolio in major international markets. In India, BYD has already found its niche with fully electric models like Atto 3, Seal, Sealion 7, and eMax 7.

Seems the Chinese electric carmaker is gearing up to launch another new vehicle in India. A test mule of the BYD Atto 2 was recently spotted on Indian roads which suggests a possible launch in India in the future. The compact electric SUV will be slotted below the Atto 3 in the company’s India lineup.

BYD Atto 2: What’s it?

First unveiled at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show, the Atto 2 goes by different names in different markets. In China, it is known as Yuan Up whereas in Brazil it’s known as Yuan Pro. Based on BYD’s eplatform 3.0, the Atto 2 measures 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height. This puts it in the same bracket as Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6, Tata Curvv EV, and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.

The spy image shows a fully camouflaged test unit of the BYD Atto 2 so it’s difficult to deduce any specific visual detail of the SUV. However, from the looks of it, the Indiaspec model is likely to be identical to its international counterpart. The overall silhouette is boxy with an upright stance similar to the Atto 3. Up front, it gets a similar LED headlight signature. It features connected LED taillamps, while the rear spoiler sports raised ends. A faux diffuser sits below, complemented by matching silver accents above it.

BYD Atto 2: Expected Features & Specs

Like the rest of the BYD lineup, the Atto 2 gets a minimalistic cabin with a large 12.8inch rotatable infotainment display taking centre stage at the dashboard. There’s an 8.8inch digital instrument cluster behind the multifunction steering wheel. The Europespec Atto 2 which made its debut in January earlier this year comes with an allblack interior theme.

Other notable features include a panoramic sunroof, TypeC charging ports, ambient lighting, heated and poweradjustable front seats, and leather upholstery. It offers a boot capacity of ambient lighting.

As of now, BYD Atto 2 is offered only as a single motor, frontwheel drive layout that withdraws energy from BYD’s proprietary 45.1kWh Blade Cell battery pack. BYD promises up to 380kilometre range. The longrange variant of Atto 2 with a larger battery pack is expected to offer a 402km range (NEDC) on a single charge.
