New Delhi . Imagine, about 6 billion kilometers away from Earth, where there is no engineer, no tool… there is a camera (camera) if there is a camera there? But NASA made the impossible possible. The camera of the Juno Spacecraft, revolving around the planet Jupiter, caused a malfunction in the camera, but the scientists sitting on the earth made it ‘heal’ from far away. This mission is not only a technical miracle, but also opens a new path for future space campaigns.
Junocam, the camera system of NASA’s Jupiter Mission ‘Juno’, has recently received a major improvement. This camera, which was spoiled by the powerful radiation of Jupiter, has successfully corrected the heat treatment technology by scientists from 370 million miles (about 6 billion kilometers) away. The camera was heated to 25 ° C through this technique, curing its microscopic level damage.
What happened to Junocam?
At the end of 2023, when the Juno spacecraft was passing by Jupiter’s Moon IO, its camera started getting flaws. In the photographs taken, lines and noise began to appear clear. The team tried to improve the quality of the photographs by adopting several methods, but nothing was worked.

According to NASA engineer Jacob Schaffner and Michael Ravine, the decision to heat the camera was one last bet. For this, the heater of Junocam was extended to 77 ° F (about 25 ° C). Due to this, radiation -borne damage at the silicone level in the camera could be cured.
What effect?
Now the pictures being received from Junocam are more clear than ever. Sulfur dioxide frost and volcanic activity are clearly visible in the high-resolution image of IO’s North Polar Region. NASA called this success “Long-DISTANCE SAVE”.
The results of this technique were presented on July 16 at IEEE Nuclear & Space Radiation Effects Conference in Nashville, USA. Scientists believe that these experiments can prove to be extremely useful for future space campaigns.
Juno mission achievement
Despite the camera malfunction, Juno has revolved around the Jupiter 74 times so far, which has given significant information about the planet’s atmosphere, polar regions and its moon.
