Bandarlampung city, capital of Indonesia’s Lampung Province, has been awarded a world record certificate for creating the largest ‘sekubal’ cake ever made.
The award was presented on July 27 by the Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI) during the “Lampung Traditional Culinary and Street Food Festival” held in Bandarlampung.
The record-breaking cake measured 25 meters in length and 25 centimeters in diameter. The achievement was the result of a joint effort by local authorities and community groups, including micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises.
The event was held to mark the 343rd founding anniversary of the city. More than just an attempt to break a record, it also served as a symbol of the Indonesian tradition of mutual cooperation and the commitment to preserving local cultural values.
‘Sekubal’ is a traditional dish of the Lampung region, made primarily from glutinous rice and coconut milk. It is wrapped in banana leaves and steamed until cooked.
The cake is typically served during major celebrations, especially the Muslim festival Eid al-Fitr (Lebaran).
