Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The state government has failed to manage fertiliser distribution. The CAG report on fertilisers from 2017 to 2022 has unveiled this fact.

Neither the state government nor the district administration paid any attention to assessing the situation regarding the management of fertiliser, the most important thing for farmers.

According to the CAG report, despite the instructions by the government of India, the exact amount of fertiliser required by the farmers was never estimated. Last year, it was estimated on the basis of utilisation of fertiliser. As a result, there was a shortage of manure.

The collectors and district officers did not carry out their responsibility for storage of fertiliser in advance.  At the time of assessment of the requirement of manure, feedback from farmers and cooperative societies was to be taken.

Markfed did not give any concession on fertiliser to many farmers. Consequently, they had to bear the burden of an additional amount of ₹ 10 crore. Because of the amendment in the rate of sale, Markfed had to incur a loss of ₹ 5 crore.

There were irregularities in the plan for the supply of fertiliser in districts. Thus, some farmers got more fertilisers, and the others got less. Irregularities were also found in the stock of manure in districts.

The CAG report also put up a question mark on the testing of fertiliser. According to the report, the state needs 18 laboratories, but there are only six, and four of them are not functioning.
