Development Plans for Guwahati Airport Area
Guwahati, Aug 1: The Assam administration has revealed its intention to transform the land surrounding Guwahati airport into a significant tourism and entertainment center, emphasizing the promotion of the state's burgeoning concert industry.
During a press conference at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Dispur, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the government plans to construct a stadium inspired by Bharat Madapam and a convention center aimed at hosting major events and concerts from the Eastern region.
“We are set to establish a stadium that will enhance Assam's concert economy. Additionally, we will create amusement parks similar to those in Singapore, customized to fit Assam's unique context,” he mentioned.
The Chief Minister pointed out that the initiative aims to draw tourists, with all developments being spearheaded by the state government.
“Our vision includes a Universal Studios-like entertainment park, a convention center, hotels, and wedding venues as part of these projects,” he added.
Addressing the need for land acquisition near the airport, Sarma explained, “Whenever we relocate individuals, there is a belief that we are transferring land to private developers. However, in a few years, the public will recognize that it is the government utilizing the land for forests or other initiatives.”
He also emphasized the government's commitment to expediting project completions.
“Our spirits are high. We plan to finish and inaugurate numerous development projects in the upcoming months, aided by generous financial support from the Centre,” Sarma stated.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Assam on September 8 to commemorate the birth centenary of cultural figure Bhupen Hazarika. During this visit, he is expected to inaugurate significant projects, including the Numaligarh refinery, Guwahati Ring Road, Kuruwa-Narengi bridge, and Mangaldai Medical College.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister announced the launch of Orunodoi 3.0 on September 17, which will benefit 4 million individuals. A new portal has also been introduced for those who wish to voluntarily exit the scheme after obtaining government employment.
The Nijut Moina initiative, which supports women's education, will be expanded to include students from central universities in Tezpur and Silchar, as well as provincialized colleges.
