A sudden flash flood (flood) in the Tangling area in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh shed a large part of the Kinnaur-Acailash Yatra route, causing hundreds of pilgrims to be trapped. As soon as the situation worsened, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) took quick action and evacuated 413 passengers. The 17th Battalion soldiers of ITBP used rope -based traverse crossing technology to remove passengers from flood affected areas and transport it to safe places. According to officials, the teams of ITBP and NDRF were immediately engaged in relief work after receiving emergency calls from Kinnaur district administration on Wednesday morning.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of moderate to heavy rainfall in most districts of Himachal Pradesh. Especially Bilaspur, Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur and Mandi are expected to have excessive rainfall. At the same time, light to moderate rains have also been expected in Chamba, Kangra, Hamirpur, Una, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur and Kullu.

The incessant torrential rains have disturbed life in Shimla district. The district administration has ordered all educational institutions to be closed in view of security. There are also reports of landslides in many places, which has affected traffic. The Kinnaur-Acailash Yatra route is known as a famous pilgrimage site in the Himalayan region. But due to heavy rains and flash floods, a large part of the tracking route has been destroyed, which can postpone the next trips.

While 413 people were saved from the courageous and fast relief campaign of ITBP, the Meteorological Department’s warning and continuous rains have become a matter of concern for many areas of Himachal. Administration and disaster relief teams are on alert and people are being appealed to avoid unnecessary travel and follow the weather guidelines.
