One of the most famous stories of their friendship involves a "throwback" moment where Amitabh Bachchan played a crucial role in helping Rajinikanth secure his Bollywood debut in the 1983 film ' Andhaa Kanoon '. The two megastars, who last shared the screen in the 1991 movie 'Hum', have always spoken highly of one another, highlighting their long-standing bond.

This classic tale from their early careers has resurfaced, let's take a closer look. Amitabh Bachchan’s crucial role in Rajinikanth’s big Bollywood breakDuring the audio launch of ‘Vettaiyan,’ Rajinikanth shared a heartwarming story about how he landed his Bollywood debut back in 1983 with ‘Andhaa Kanoon.’ Interestingly, the opportunity came his way because of none other than Amitabh Bachchan.
“They initially wanted Mithun Chakraborty to do that role,” Rajinikanth recalled. ‘Andhaa Kanoon’ was the Hindi remake of ‘Sattam Oru Iruttarai.’ At that time, Kamal Haasan had already made a mark in Hindi cinema with ‘Ek Duuje Ke Liye.’ But Amitji suggested my name and promised the producers he would do a guest role if they cast me. That’s how I got the chance to work in ‘Andhaa Kanoon,’” he said.
The film went on to be a big box office success and ranked as the fifth highest-grossing film of 1983. Directed by T. Rama Rao, it featured Rajinikanth, Hema Malini, and Reena Roy in lead roles, while Amitabh Bachchan appeared in a pivotal cameo as promised. The film also saw Dharmendra in a guest appearance, adding more star power to the ensemble. From ‘Andhaa Kanoon’ to ‘Hum’Rajinikanth further mentioned how this collaboration led to two more successful projects with Amitabh Bachchan, ‘ Geraftaar ’, where he made a cameo, and ‘Hum,’ both of which became major hits.
